  Nestled at the base of the 12,956 ft, Mt Sopris, Carbondale sits at 6181 ft elevation. With a rich history in mining, ranching, and farming, this quaint hamlet has grown to approximately 6,800 residents. Carbondale is located in Garfield County, Colorado. Just 30 miles from Aspen, and 10 miles from Glenwood Springs and I-70.
  
  Carbondale has developed as a vibrant art community with many murals and public art displays. The most prominent displays can be found in Carbondale's bustling Main Street. Here you will find locally owned retail shops, a vintage movie theater, and world-class restaurants. The restaurants feature everything from Thai fusion to a by-the-slice pizzeria, many with seasonal outdoor dining, and farm-to-table ingredients. The median age of residents is 33, however, the town has been recognized as an age-friendly community by AARP.
  
  There are several options for schools, public, charter and private schools are all present in town. The public schools are in the Roaring Fork RE-1 School District. Colorado Mountain College also has a campus in town.

  Recreation

  Carbondale has been named in several national magazines as on of the best places to live for outdoor enthusiasts. Positioned at the confluence of the Roaring Fork and Crystal Rivers there is always something to do. Carbondale boasts access to gold medal fishing waters, as well as paddle boarding, river rafting, and kayaking.
  
  The Rio Grande Trail meanders through Carbondale. The trail is perfect for biking, running, or an evening stroll. This particular trail follows the route of an old railroad track that goes from Glenwood Springs to Aspen. There are many other trails in and around Carbondale for any fitness level.
  
  Carbondale also boasts four golf courses, Ironbridge, Aspen Glen, River Valley Ranch, and the Ranch at Roaring Fork. Each course offers it's own unique features as well as opportunities to invest in Carbondale real estate. While Carbondale doesn't have it's own ski resort, Aspen's four mountains are a short drive away, and even closer is Glenwood Springs Sunlight Mountain Ski Area.
  
  The Carbondale Recreation Center offers classes, a gym, and a seasonal outdoor pool, all within walking distance of the downtown area.

  Carbondale boasts an average of 295 days of sunshine, low humidity, cold but mild winters and comfortable summers. Storms that can inundate the surrounding areas often spare Carbondale creating its reputation as the “banana belt” of the Roaring Fork Valley. There is a significant day to night temperature swing and precipitation can vary greatly from year to year. The average snowfall is approximately 69 inches. The growing season averages 98 days with the last spring frost about June 1 and the first killing frost about September 15.
